Testing Degradation is a video art piece created in collaboration between Candace Rood & Alek de Dóchas, exploring the complex dynamic between the earth and the workers at nuclear waste processing sites whose guided hands play a part in the steady decimation of our lands. Two individuals—the “Subject” and “Masked Worker”—express their respective fears, sorrows, and motivations as we watch the prior be force-fed repugnant concoctions in some strange, abusive series of trials measuring mental and physical limitations. Viewers are asked to question their own proximity to the sickness and violence that plagues their environment, and how it inevitably affects all those we care about if we maintain a passive role in its containment.
